All ages and interests can get in on costuming. Some people prefer to adventure around the convention itself in their costumes (referred to in the past as "Hall Costumes" but now called "Cosplay").

You can learn more about Cosplay in the article in Update #1 for 2006, which you can get online!

2006 Masquerade Award Results!


The Comic-Con 2006 Masquerade thrilled an audience that once again filled Ballroom 20 to capacity. Those that were unable to find a seat in the ballroom were could watch the show on large projection screens in the Sail Pavilion and in Room 6A. There were 46 entries in the show. The Master of Ceremonies was Phil Foglio, and the panel of judges included Diane Duncan, Dragon Dronet, Wanda Piety, Jeanne Clason, and Max Cervantes.

ConDor and Conjecture presented a Con-Tour prize to the best first-time solo entry. The Con-Tour prize package consists of memberships to Conjecture V this September, ConDor XIV in March, and Comic-Con International 2007 next July, plus $100 in cash. The winner was Evangelion 01, worn by Edgar Mayoral Ruelas; designed/made by Edgar Mayoral Ruelas.

Lucasfilm Ltd. once again rewarded the best Star Wars costumers in the show with very special awards from the Lucas Licensing archives. They selected The Modal Nodes, worn by Kit Brown, Scott Hill, Carol Hill, Seth Monsen, Bryan Fear, Eric Eseke; designed/made by Kit Brown.

PRA International bestowed a $150 gift certificate for use at its website for the best anime entry: Scott Bernards VF-6 Alpha Fighter, worn by Blair Heald; designed/made by Blair Heald.

Committed Comics presented $200 to the best Young Fan entry portraying a comic book character, Runaway Bounty, worn by Tom, Rogino, Nick and Carlo; designed/made by Tom and Rosino. Plus, a $100 prize was bestowed to what they chose as the best first-time entry in the show, Halloween Girl and the Gunwitch, worn by Rosa & Choz Cunningham; designed/made by Rosa Cunningham.

Century Guild presented the choice of $200 in cash, or up to $500 in credit at their exhibitor booth, to what they chose as the best portrayal of elements of fantasy or Art Nouveau, Kwi Tok Ja Long, worn by Medgecomb; designed/made by Medgecomb, and Halloween Girl and the Gunwitch, worn by Rosa & Choz Cunningham; designed/made by Rosa Cunningham

The Testmarket Evolution awarded $100 to what they deemed the best anime costume Scott Bernards VF-6 Alpha Fighter, worn by Blair Heald; designed/made by Blair Heald and $100 to the best costume portraying food to Nova, "Starcraft: Ghost", worn by Jennifer Lengerich; designed/made by Jennifer Lengerich.

L.A.con IV presented a prize of two free memberships (a $400 value) to the best entry in a science fiction genre to Dancing with the Celebrities from the Stars!, worn by Kent Elofson, Danica Lisiewicz, Nicole Roberts, David Rose, Dawn Rose, Sa Winfield; designed/made by V.H.M.

AgentSakur9 Entertainment bestowed a $200 award to and a trophy for the Most Outstanding Costume to Corpse Bride, worn by Nicole Miyamoto; designed/made by Nicole Miyamoto.

San Diego FX Studio, Inc. bestowed a $200 cash prize to the costume entry they judged as best utilizing make-up to Davy Jones, worn by Jake Webber; designed/made by Corey Webber and Jake Webber and Dancing with the Celebrities from the Stars!, worn by Kent Elofson, Danica Lisiewicz, Nicole Roberts, David Rose, Dawn Rose, Sa Winfield; designed/made by V.H.M..

Dreamers and Schemers awarded $400 and a teaser poster for their new movie to what they deemed the best re-creation of a movie or TV character to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, worn by Rosemary Reeve, Dawn Coll, Sabrina Johnson, Kim Garvin, Donna Omo; designed/made by Ken Davis, Rosemary Reeve, Dawn Coll, Sabrina Johnson, Kim Garvin, Donna Omo.

Mattel awarded a prize pack of Superman Returns collectibles and toys including the R/C Flying Superman figure, Inflato-Suit, S3 Select Sculpt figures, plus action figures totaling over $300 in value to the best Superman or Supergirl entry Superman, worn by Allan Lavigne; designed/made by Allan Lavigne.

Diamond Select Toys and Paramount Home Video, in recognition of the 40th anniversary of Star Trek, awarded a special collection of Star Trek action figures, autographs, and the newly-released Fan Collective DVD sets, plus $100 in cash to Guinan - "Star Trek: The Next Generation", worn by Sandra Ford; designed/made by Sandra Ford and Patricia Delhm.
