A LOOK BACK AT COMIC-CON 2006
The life and career of Will Eisner was
one of the primary special themes
of Comic-Con International 2005.
The Spirit™ & ©2006 Will Eisner.
The 2006 Comic‑Con Souvenir Book!
Comic‑Con International offers each attendee a free copy of this
attractive, trade paperback sized commemorative book.
Here are some of the special themes and anniversaries we're working on for
Comic-Con 2006, for both programming and our
Souvenir Book.
Robert E. Howard's 100th Birthday
The creator of Conan, Solomon Kane, and Kull turns 100. Robert E. Howard's
characters started in the pulp magazines of the 1930s, but conquered the worlds
of comics and film later on. We celebrate Howard's creations and his lasting
influence on fantasy, comics and film.
Universal Monsters' 75th Anniversary
In 1931, both of the Universal versions of Bram Stoker's Dracula and Mary
Shelley's Frankenstein monster shambled into our lives. They've been scaring us
ever since! We celebrate the iconic monsters of Universal Studios, including
Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, and the Wolf Man, just to name a few, and the
actors who portrayed them and are so indelibly etched in our minds as associated
with these beloved "monsters."
75th Anniversary of Dick Tracy
He's the world's greatest comic strip detective and he's been entertaining
readers since 1931! Chester Gould's Dick Tracy has conquered movies,
TV and cartoons and remains one of the most thrilling strips ever published.
Known under Gould as being torn from the headlines, the strip grew out of the
lawless era of the Depression when real-life figure like Al Capone and John
Dillinger ruled the headlines.
Archie's 65th Birthday
America's most beloved perennial teenager is 65! And he doesn't look a day over
16! Comic-Con celebrates the long history of one of the best-selling comics
ever.
Captain America's 65th Anniversary
Hard to believe, but it's been 65 years since Captain America made his first
flag-waving appearance in comics. Created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, Cap has
been a constant in almost every decade of comics since. We salute the Captain
and his many years in comics.
50th Anniversary of the Flash and the Silver Age of Comics
Okay...we can argue this until the cows don bright red suits and dash home
faster than the speed of sound, but some fans regard the recreation of The Flash,
first appearing in Showcase #4 in 1956, as the "official" beginning of
the Silver Age of Comics.
50th Anniversary of Gumby
He was once a little green slab of clay...but now he's 50, dammit! Hard to
believe the little green guy (not to mention his pony pal, Pokey, too) is
celebrating a half-century of pop culture popularity.
40th Anniversary of the original Star Trek
From its humble beginnings on network television, Gene Roddenberry's
Star Trek franchise went on to become a juggernaut, producing
multiple TV series, a score of feature films, and more merchandise
than a cargo hold full of tribbles. Now it's time to celebrate the
40th anniversary of the original Enterprise crew, who continually
fulfilled its mission to, "Boldly go where no man has gone before..."
40th Anniversary of Space Ghost
Before he went "Coast to Coast," he was a popular 60s' Saturday morning
cartoon character. Comic-Con celebrates the enduring appeal of this
character who has survived to become a Cartoon Network "talk show host"
and the star of his own DC Comics mini-series!
We're sorry, but we are no longer accepting Souvenir Book submissions. Thank you
to those who have contributed.
