Every morning in the 30 days leading up to WonderCon Anaheim 2014 (from March 19 to April 17), we’re going to offer our “Toucan Tip of the Day,” a tiny tidbit of terrific information that we hope will add to your enjoyment of the show. To view all of our WCA 2014 Toucan Tips, please click on the “Tip of the Day” link under Categories at the top of our sidebar on the right; all published tips will appear, with the latest at the top.
The hallmark of any great comics convention is how great the Artists’ Alley is, and at WonderCon Anaheim 2014 it’s great indeed! 280 exhibitors will be in place this year in the biggest “Alley” we’ve ever had at the show. Navigating this show within a show can be a bit tricky—and you can almost spend your entire day in there!—so here are some tips. Our Toucan columnist, Eisner Award-winning artist Steve Lieber has his own perspective—that of someone behind the table—on visiting Artists’ Alley; click here to read that (and see Steve in WCA’s Artists’ Alley this year, too!). Our Artists' Alley list of exhibitors is now online ... click here to browse it! You'll also find our Exhibit Hall map on the top of that page, too! Click on the map image to check it out!
• Make sure you browse through portfolios and binders on the artists’ tables. They can't display everything on their tabletops, and you never know what kind of hidden treasure you might find (Wolverine surfing off the coast of Hawaii in pineapple-embroidered swim trunks with Lockheed on his shoulder? It could happen!)
• Collect the business cards of artists whose work you like. This way you can visit their websites or social media later and purchase something you missed.
• Check social media (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.) hashtags to discover artwork and merchandise that's been posted. Find out what their booth number is or ask the poster who they purchased it from.
WonderCon Anaheim’s Artists’ Alley is a treasure trove of art by amazing artists … set time aside to explore it!
