A LOOK BACK AT WONDERCON 2006
The Hollywood contingent was out in full force once again at WonderCon, as we
proudly offered presentations by 12 major Hollywood studios!
It all started on Friday, Feb. 10 with an exclulsive advance peek at the new MirrorMask DVD
from our friends at the Jim Henson Company. The film, written by Neil Gaiman and
directed by Dave McKean, debuted on DVD on Feb. 14. Friday also featured
Cinefantastique Magazine’s look at some of the sci-fi and horror movies
coming out in 2006. And Friday ended with a special screening of the New Line
Cinema feature, Running Scared, starring Paul Walker and directed
by Wayne Kramer (The Cooler), at a nearby theater. Both Walker and
Kramer were on hand for a Q&A session after the movie.
Saturday featured wall-to-wall exclusive studio presentations in our new
3,500-seat presentation room!
Writer/Director J.J. Abrams (Alias, Lost) talked about his jump to the big
screen with Paramout Pictures'
Mission Impossible: III
It started with Focus Features’ new movie Brick,
with star Joseph Gordon-Levitt on hand to talk about the
film. 20th Century Fox was up next with a 90-minute block including the new
movies Pathfinder (with director Marcus Nispel)
and the new version of The Omen (with director John Moore).
Both directors will screen specially prepared footage from their
films.
Fox Searchlight offered a look at the re-imagining of the classic horror
film, The Hills Have Eyes, with original director Wes Craven to
talkkng about his role producing the new film. Then, J. J. Abrams discussed
making the jump from the small screen (Alias, Lost) to the big screen
with Paramount Pictures’ Mission: Impossible: III!
Kevin Smith took center stage for a rollicking 90-minute Q&A session,
followed by the studio most in the news during those few weeks, Pixar! Celebrating its 20th
anniversary, the crew from Pixar gave audiences an exclusive advance look at their
film, Cars, one of the biggest hits of the year. Actress Deborah Kara Unger
(White Noise) talked about her new horror film, Silent Hill, from
TriStar.
Audiences went wild with the surprise appearance of the new
leading man-of-steel, Brandon Routh (left), from Superman Returns,
seen posing here with director Bryan Singer.
And then fan-favorite Bryan Singer took the stage, along with a surprise
appearance by the new Superman himself, Brandon Routh, to discuss
the most eagerly awaited film of 2006, Superman Returns
from Warner Bros.! Following that, Lucasfilm’s Steve Sansweet returned to WonderCon to show
us that there’s more to come from the monumental Star Wars saga. And
Lionsgate offered the world premiere screening of their new animated film,
Ultimate Avengers: The Movie, in an exclusive event at WonderCon! This
amazing film debuted on DVD on Feb. 21.
And on Sunday, there was even more cool movie and TV stuff!
WonderCon presented an exclusive, never-before-seen Spongebob Squarepants
cartoon from our friends at Nickelodeon! Nick also provided a sneak peek at the season 2 premiere
of Avatar, The Last Airbender. Then it was everybody’s favorite program,
Trailer Park, featuring the best trailers coming soon to a theater near you.
Sunday also featured a sneak peek at the new SCI FI series, Eureka, with
co-creator Andrew Crosby and star Colin Ferguson (Coupling).
Comics great and film director
Frank Miller (Sin City) was featured in his very own
spotlight panel on Sunday, too! Plus, WonderCon offered an exclusive look at the first 3 chapters of
Broken Saints, the ground-breaking web series that's now available on DVD from
20th Century Fox Home Video.
And that was just the Hollywood programs!

This is the programming schedule as of press time. For last-minute

in the programming Room hallways. Panelists scheduled to appear at each

All programming rooms are on the second level of Moscone West;
the Masquerade is on the third level on Saturday night.

seating and are on a first-come, first-served basis.
Because of the number of attendees,
simply having a badge does not guarantee a seat in
programs and events, nor an autograph from a specific celebrity.
Rooms are not cleared between programs. This schedule is subject to change without
