11:30-12:30 DC Comics: Crisis Counseling: One Year Later—Dan DiDio, senior VP/executive editor, DCU, returns to counsel the convention circuit with his first public appearance in 2006. Dan is joined by superstar writer Greg Rucka (Supergirl, Wonder Woman) plus special guest counselors Grant Morrison (Seven Soldiers) and Mark Waid (Legion of Super-Heroes). 11:30-12:30 The Future of Comics Retailing—A diverse panel of Bay Area comic book retailers will be on hand for a roundtable discussion about the future of selling comics for a living. Moderator Dan Shahin (Hijinx Comics) is joined by Lee Hester (Lee’s Comics), Steve Mortensen (Colossus Comics), Rory Root (Comic Relief), and James Sime ( Isotope) to find out what it takes to open and run a modern comic book store. 11:30-1:00 Building an Organized Fan Group—You are not alone! There are fans and friends with similar interests in each and every town, and the Internet has made us more aware of that than ever before. But how do you go about starting and organizing a well-run fan group? Whether your interest is a particular movie, TV show, or comic book, you too can get your friends together and discuss it, or even dress up like the characters from your favorites. 12:30-1:30 Spotlight on Frank Miller— Few creators have made as indelible an impact on popular culture as Frank Miller. From his early rise to prominence at Marvel, through reenvisioning Daredevil and Batman, to the current success of the creator-owned juggernaut Sin City, Miller has cast a long shadow on comics, film, and the media world at large. Now, as he reaches the quarter century mark of his career, Miller can look back on a record of achievement unmatched by any of his peers in comics. CBLDF executive director Charles Brownstein interviews Miller on his life and times in comics and pop culture, reflecting on his accomplishments and looking forward to the unconquered worlds ahead. Plus, there’ll be some CBLDF surprises as well. If you’re a Frank Miller fan, this is the one panel you can’t afford to miss! Room 2014

12:30-1:30 Is Star Trek Dead, Jim? Not as long as we remember it!— A panel of expert Treksperts examine the current status of the Star Trek franchise. Will it rise like a phoenix from the ashes, or is it truly dead, Jim? Robert Burnett (Free Enterprise), Jeff Bond (Music of Star Trek), Daren Dochterman (Star Trek: The Motion Picture - Special Edition DVD), and moderator Mark A. Altman discuss their favorite franchise and whether it’s still relevant in the 21st century. Room 2018

12:30-2:00 The Secret Origin of Good Readers—Now celebrating its 5th year, this popular Comic-Con International: San Diego panel is making its second Northern California appearance at WonderCon. Dr. Robyn A. Hill (National University, San Diego) and Mimi Cruz (Night Flight Comics, Salt Lake City) are joined on the panel by Patricia Foster (Salt Lake County Senior Librarian) and a Special Comics Industry Guest (TBA) to discuss how teachers, librarians, comics retailers, and other comics industry professionals can work together to bring comic books into classrooms and libraries for use as an innovative and motivating cross-curricular teaching tool and bridge to literacy. Through a multimedia presentation, personal remarks, and a question-and-answer session, the panelist will present an overview of the medium and highlight specific ways that comic books can and have been used to engage a variety of learners. 1:00-2:30 Browncoats Charity Prize Drawing and Done the Impossible Q&A—The San Francisco and Sacramento Browncoats present a charity prize drawing to benefit Equality Now and the Wooten Center. Tickets for the prize drawing are available at the Browncoats table all weekend up until 1:00 on Sunday. Show up to see what shiny prizes you won, then stay for a Q&A panel with the filmmakers of Done The Impossible, Brian Wiser and Jeremy Neish. Room 2022

1:30-2:30 DC Comics: WildStorm: Universe Building—DC’s Scott Dunbier, executive editor–WildStorm, and Asako Suzuki, WildStorm’s director of manga, reveal the inside scoop on what’s upcoming from DC’s wildest imprints. Grant Morrison (Wildcats), Alé Garza (Skye Runner), and others share secrets you won’t hear anywhere else! Room 2014

1:30-2:30 Emily the Strange: The Comic Book!—Emily is mysterious, Emily is cool, she’s a follower of no one but herself, and she’s the strangest 13-year-old girl in the world. Now she’s also the star of her very own comic book from Dark Horse Comics and the creative brain trust known as Cosmic Debris. Join the monsterminds behind the Emily phenomenon for this weird and wild panel discussion about all things Emily, and enjoy a special sneak peek inside the pages of the next Emily comic! 2:00-3:00 New TV Series: EurekaFor years, the government has been relocating the world’s geniuses (and their families) to the bucolic Pacific Northwest town of Eureka, where daily life straddles the line between unprecedented innovation and total chaos. U.S. Marshall Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson) finds this out firsthand when he wrecks his car and becomes stranded in Eureka. After the town’s eccentric inhabitants unleash a scientific creation still unknown to the outside world, Carter steps in to restore order and consequently is let in on one of our country’s best-kept secrets. Eureka is a SCI FI Channel original series written and executive produced by Andrew Cosby and Jaime Paglia; it stars Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Joe Morton, and Debrah Farentino, among others. Produced by SCI FI Channel, in association with NBC Universal Television Studio, Eureka will air on SCI FI this summer. 2:00-3:00 eigoMANGA: Manga Tutorials and Portfolio Review—eigoMANGA, the manga publishing studio/company, brings the acclaimed editing and artists team that produced the groundbreaking manga hits Rumble Pak and Sakura Pakk to WonderCon. The team will demonstrate artistic and storytelling techniques on creating professional-level manga. They will also review and critique manga artwork for artists hoping to break into the world of manga. eigoMANGA’s panel team includes Austin Osueke, Peter Yutriard, Jeff Loew, Alvaro Gutierrez, and Oscar Gutierrez Jr. Room 2020

2:30-4:00 Comic Book Writers— Mark Evanier talks with three of WonderCon’s special guests, Mark Waid (Legion of Super-Heroes, Flash), Peter David (Fallen Angel, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man), and Terry Moore (Strangers in Paradise), about comics writing, characters—with and without capes—and much more. 2:30-4:00 CFQ Presents: Robot Rumble by the Bay!—Starship Smackdown may be over, but the Robot Rumble is just beginning! Imagine your favorite metal friends pitted in deadly combat to the death as our expert panel of robot-ologists ponder the match-ups of a lifetime. Could Robby defeat V.I.N.C.E.N.T., or would MechaGodzilla make mincemeat of Gort? 3:00-4:00 Broken Saints: The DVD—Catch the world premiere screening of the new DVD release of Broken Saints, the incredible, groundbreaking animated web series available this summer from Fox Home Entertainment. Winner of the 2003 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award for Online Animation, Broken Saints is a must-see for comics and animation fans. This “graphic novel come to life” fuses anime-style art, comic book lettering, music, and Flash animation into a 12-hour fantasy/horror epic, featuring the voices of William B. Davis (The X-Files), Kirby Morrow (Dragonball Z), and David Kaye (Beast Wars). Available exclusively on the Internet since 2001, the film has developed a huge cult-following seen by over 5 million viewers. 3:00-5:00 WonderCon Film School—Get in on the ultimate crash course on making your own movie for very little money. Experienced guerrilla filmmakers will share their knowledge of how to overcome the most common and toughest challenges that can arise when bringing your ideas to life. Learn movie magic secrets in demonstrations of special FX makeup, prop making, sound design, and visual FX using a home computer. Panelists include Nick Murphy and Valerie Perez (filmmakers behind Tomb Raider: Tears of the Dragon, a Lara Croft fan film), Dominic Alfano (special FX makeup artist of NoochNation.com), Keith Carter and Tracy Butcher (celebrated costume and prop gurus of AdventurersPlace.com), and Steve Reedy and Eric Jacobus (the brains and brawn behind theStuntPeople.com action films). Panelists scheduled to appear at each event are subject to change. See the Moscone Center West site map (included in PDFs and on the back cover of the Program Book) for Room locations. All programming rooms are on the second level of Moscone West; the Masquerade is on the third level on Saturday night.

Please note that all programs have limited seating and are on a first-come, first-served basis. Because of the number of attendees, simply having a badge does not guarantee a seat in programs and events, nor an autograph from a specific celebrity. Rooms are not cleared between programs. This schedule is subject to change without notice.
