Hollywood Drawn To San Francisco For WonderCon 2006
San Francisco – Northern California’s largest
comic book and pop culture convention celebrates its 20th anniversary
at the Moscone West Convention facility this February 10-12, 2006, and Hollywood will join the
fun.
Friday, February 10th features a special
look at the upcoming MirrorMask DVD from the Jim Henson Company.
Also, on Friday night, WonderCon presents a special screening of New Line
Cinema’s, Running Scared, starring Paul Walker and directed
by Wayne Kramer (The Cooler), at a nearby theater. Both Walker
and Kramer will be on hand to answer questions from the audience.
Saturday, February 11th has wall-to-wall
studio presentations as Focus Features gives a look at their new film Brick,
with star Joseph Gordon-Levitt on hand to talk about the movie. 20th
Century Fox then offers a peek at two new features Pathfinder with
director Marcus Nispel in attendance and an updated version
of The Omen with director John Moore present.
Fox Searchlight is up next with a look at the re-imagining
of the classic horror film, The Hills Have Eyes, with original director
Wes Craven present, this time serving as producer. Then it’s J.J.
Abrams, creator of Lost and Alias to talk about directing
Paramount Pictures’ upcoming Mission Impossible: III. And filmmaker
Kevin Smith takes center stage for a rollicking 90-minute question
and answer session on his past films and his upcoming sequel to the very popular
cult classic Clerks.
Pixar is also celebrating its 20th anniversary
and will offer a presentation on the history of one of the most successful
animation studios along with an exclusive look at their next film, Cars,
due out this summer.
Deborah Kara Unger (White Noise) talks
about her new horror film Silent Hill, from TriStar Pictures. And then
fan-favorite Bryan Singer takes the stage to discuss what an Entertainment
Weekly online poll has called the most eagerly awaited film of 2006, Superman
Returns from Warner Bros. In addition, Lucasfilm’s Steve Sansweet returns
to WonderCon to show us there’s more to come from the monumental Star Wars
saga.
Also on Saturday, Lionsgate presents the world premiere
screening of the much-anticipated new animated film, Ultimate Avengers:
The Movie, in an exclusive event at WonderCon.
On Sunday, February 12th WonderCon plays
host to an exclusive, never-before-seen Spongebob Squarepants cartoon
from Nickelodeon as well as a sneak peek at the second season premiere of
the popular Avatar, The Last Airbender.
Sunday also features a sneak peek at the new SCI
FI Channel series, Eureka, with co-creator Andrew Crosby and
star Colin Ferguson (Coupling)
in attendance. And comics great and film director Frank Miller (Sin
City) is featured in his very own spotlight panel to discuss his past
and upcoming projects.
Plus 20th Century Fox Home Video presents
an exclusive look at the first three chapters of Broken Saints, the
ground breaking web series coming out on DVD later this year.
