A LOOK BACK AT WONDERCON 2007
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Comics-Oriented Programming Once Again Dominates WonderCon
WonderCon, Northern California's largest comic book and pop culture convention,
began rolling out the schedule of programming for the three-day event to be held
March 2-4, 2007 at Moscone Center South in San Francisco.
Comics related programming, as expected, once again dominates the schedule of
events for the twenty-one year old show. "As huge fans of comic books, obviously
programming is going to be comics heavy," said David Glanzer, spokesperson for
the non-profit event, "we always put on the kind of show we would want to
attend, and I think our programming best reflects this."
The weekend will be filled with panels and programs on all aspects of comics and
pop culture as well as a number of hands on workshops, spotlights on legends,
both past and current, of the comics industry and, for the first time at
WonderCon, The Comics Arts Conference (CAC).
Long regarded as one of the leading academic conferences related to comic art in
the country, the CAC is designed to bring together comics scholars,
professionals, critics, and historians to promote and engage in serious study of
the medium, and to be involved in the dynamic process of evolving an aesthetic
and a criticism of the comics art form.
Programming for the CAC will be held on Saturday, March 3, and the 6-part
seminar will cover such diverse topics as Carl Barks, utopia under Superman,
Batman and Wonder Woman, flying women in the comics of World War II, the genesis
of the cinematic superhero, and much more. While Saturday will feature
programming for the CAC, comics related programming will be held throughout the
weekend.
