22nd Annual WonderCon Hits San Francisco February 22-24!

THE EVENT

WonderCon is coming soon, and Northern California's largest comic book and pop culture convention offers an exciting guest list and nonstop action for three full days. Returning to San Francisco's Moscone Center South, the event runs from Friday, February 22, through Sunday, February 24, 2008.

WHEN

Friday, February 22: Noon to 7 p.m. (plus after-hours programming to 11 p.m.)
Saturday, February 23: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (plus after-hours programming to 11:30 p.m.)
Sunday, February 24: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Nighttime Programming: onsite Fri & Sat, starting at 7 p.m.

WHERE

Moscone Center South, 747 Howard Street, between Third and Fourth Streets, San Francisco.

ADMISSION

Advance tickets: Three-day: $30 Adults, $15 Junior/Senior; One-day (Friday or Saturday): $12 Adults, $6 Junior/Senior; One-day (Sunday): $10 Adults, $5 Junior/Senior;
At-the-door tickets: Three-day: $40 Adults, $20 Junior/Senior; One-day (Friday or Saturday): $15 Adults, $8 Junior/Senior; One-day (Sunday): $10 Adults, $5 Junior/Senior.
Children 11 and under are free with paid adult membership. Juniors are those 12-17 years old and Seniors are those 60 years of age and older.

WonderCon's greatest comic book heroes are the artists and storytellers whose vast talents have crossed over - earning the respect of diehard fans and the wider, mainstream audiences of pop culture. Comics have been transformed into a variety of new media, from movies and television shows to interactive multimedia, and this amazing group of pros shows why:

Sergio Aragonés, of Groo and MAD magazine fame, and part of the new writing team on Will Eisner's The Spirit.
Kurt Busiek, writer of the mega hit JLA/Avengers miniseries, Superman and Astro City.
Mike Choi, artist known for Witchblade, X-23, Target X and several issues of X-Men.
Becky Cloonan, artist known for Demo, American Virgin and East Coast Rising.
Darwyn Cooke, known for DC: The New Frontier and bringing Will Eisner's The Spirit to a new audience.
Terry Dodson, popular artist for Mantra, Storm, Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman and Spider-Man.
Mark Evanier, expert in the fields of comics, animation and pop culture, known for Groo. New projects include Kirby: King of Comics and writing for Will Eisner's The Spirit.
Jim Lee, one of comics' top artists, editorial director of WildStorm, known for Batman, Superman, and WildC.A.T.S.
Steve Leialoha, one of comics' leading inkers, known for Fables and many Marvel titles.
David Mack, of Kabuki fame, has written and drawn for Daredevil, designed toys and packaging and much more.
Terry Moore's Strangers in Paradise is one of the most popular self-published comics, and Terry also writes for Spider-Man and Runaways.
Noel Neill, the Lois Lane, celebrating her 60th anniversary of first playing the character, from the 1948 serial to the 1950s TV show Adventures of Superman. Her incredible career moved on to film roles and is the subject of a new book, Beyond Lois Lane.
Tim Sale, artist for NBC's Heroes, and collaborator with Jeph Loeb on Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Hulk and Daredevil.
J. Michael Straczynski, well known for Babylon 5 TV series, The Lost Tales, and Amazing Spider-Man. Last year, he wrote three films for major studios.
Ben Templesmith, artist for 30 Days of Night, Fell, Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse, Hatter M, Singularity 7, and now DeadSpace.
Bruce Timm, animation legend starting with work on Batman: The Animated Series in 1992.
Herb Trimpe, one of the most popular artists of the Marvel Age of comics, Herb is famous for his work on The Incredible Hulk and more.
Bill Willingham has nearly 25 years in comics as an artist and writer for works such as Fables, Shadowpact, and currently Salvation Run.
Brian Wood, rising star best known for his creation, DMZ. Other works include the new series Northlanders, plus Channel Zero, Supermarket, Local, and Demo.

Hollywood talent will once again thrill WonderCon fans, with leading movie and animation studios bringing stars and special presentations. Here's who's on board so far: Justice League, The New Frontier, world premiere of the new animated film's DVD release.

Children's Film Festival

WonderCon kicks off the 2nd Annual Bay Area International Children's Film Festival. For children and teens, the festival offers short films from around the world (including live-action, animation, and documentaries) and workshops.

WonderCon Highlights

Birthed in the Bay Area, WonderCon is the nation's first major comics convention of the year, and California's second largest gathering for fans and professionals of comic books, movies, television and all things pop culture. Its panels and programming include most every aspect of the comic book universe, games, a masquerade contest, art and autographs from favorite comics creators, presentations from major movie studios, a giant exhibit hall featuring the top names in comic book publishing and, believe it or not, more.

ABOUT US: WonderCon is presented by Comic-Con International, the same people who produce the world-famous Comic-Con International in San Diego and the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco each year. Comic-Con International is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to creating awareness of, and appreciation for, comics and related popular art forms, primarily through the presentation of conventions and events that celebrate the historic and ongoing contribution of comics to art and culture.
