A LOOK BACK AT WONDERCON 2010
WonderCon 2010 Masquerade Wrap-up
This year's Masquerade attracted an audience of over 2,200 into the Esplanade
Ballroom, and featured 31 entries, totaling 78 costumes crossing the
stage (our biggest show yet). While most entries were singles and pairs, one
group had 13 individuals, and several others featured 6-8 persons in their presentations.
Two giant video screens gave all in the audience great close-up views of the
many clever and impressive costumes, and the line for seating started forming
over two hours before show time. Our entertaining Master of Ceremonies was three-time
Hugo-winning artist and writer Phil Foglio, and our guest trophy judges
were Lucasfilm Master of Communications and costume expert for the company Josh
Kushins, four-time Comic-Con Masquerade Best in Show winner and now professional
Hollywood prop-maker Andrea Davis, and stepping in for the workmanship
judge called away for a family emergency was professional graphic artist and
designer Brian Scott with 20 years' costume experience with the Society
for Creative Anachronism. The evening's entertainment included special advance
movie previews before the show, and at the judging intermission the audience
was treated to a collection of award-winning Star Wars Fan Films
courtesy of Lucasfilm. The entire show ran 2 hours and 15 minutes, wrapping
