Human Resources Generalist
Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist will assist with the administration of organization-wide human resources policies, procedures, and practices in accordance with stated corporate objectives and federal and state legal requirements. The Generalist will also support the Human Resources department in all operational functions for San Diego Comic Convention(SDCC) and Comic-Con Museum (CCM).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide support to SDCC and CCM as directed by the Director of Human Resources
- Review, track, and document compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments, including safety training and anti-harassment training
- Assist in the SDCC recruitment process to include, but not be limited to
- Recruiting
- Interviewing
- Facilitating the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions
- Collaboration with departmental managers to understand the skills and competencies required for job openings
- Obtain business and candidate feedback on recruitment quality and identify improvement opportunities
- Conduct or acquire background checks and employee eligibility verifications
- Conduct new hire orientation
- Perform routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs, including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development
- Assist employees with enrolling in dental, vision, medical, and other insurance benefit programs
- Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff
- Attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations when assigned
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommend best practices; review policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Identify, build, maintain, and manage relationships with recruiting vendors, agencies, and third-party suppliers
- Reduce risk and protect the organization’s reputation and brand image by prioritizing regulatory compliance, data integrity, and audits
- Assist in the oversight of scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of staff as directed by the Director of Human Resources
- Assist with constructive and timely performance evaluations
- Complete Forms I-9, verifies I-9 documentation and maintains I-9 files
- Conduct exit interviews with employees; communicate findings to management
- Coordinate administration of workers’ compensation and unemployment claims
- Assist department volunteers at the staff desk when assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience is preferred
- Minimum of three years experience in Human Resources or a related field
- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
- Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, ability to respond to customer needs and requests promptly and professionally, especially during difficult and/or high-stress interactions
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written; ability to speak effectively and persuasively to groups and individuals
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision and ability to problem-solve in complex situations
- Ability to maintain a positive and professional demeanor as well as demonstrate credibility, integrity, and confidentiality
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable multitasking and prioritizing tasks with and without guidance
- Effective time management, prioritization, and multitasking skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Familiar with Mac and PC technology
- Knowledge of and proficiency in in-office systems used by the organization, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office, Google Suite (G Suite, formerly Google Apps), specifically Google Mail (Gmail), Google Drive, Google Docs/Sheets/Slides, Configio, and ClickUp; as well as other standard office software and applications
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn current and new systems and platforms used by the organization
- Demonstrated skills in database management
- Ability to work within a diverse team, accept differing points of view and feedback, and contribute to a cohesive, supportive, and positive team
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain trusted, effective relationships
Working conditions
- Professional office environment
- Routinely uses standard office equipment
- Standard office schedule, but flexible availability is required, based on organizational needs
- Must be available to work evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed
- Overnight stay may be required during events
- Crowded conditions (both inside or outside event spaces)
- Direct (face-to-face) customer and vendor contact
- May be required to work outside with little or no shade and warm temperature
Physical requirements
- This position requires close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading
- Occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds unassisted and bend or stand as necessary.
- Frequent sitting, walking, and standing for long periods
- Occasionally stand for extended periods of time (8-10+ hours per day)
- Walk extensive distances (up to several miles daily)
- Perform repetitive tasks with few breaks
Salary Range
$20.00 – $24.94 per hour
