SUMMARY:Chas Addams: Family and Friends
DESCRIPTION:Chas Addams: Family and Friends\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nStep into the delightfully twisted world of Chas Addams: Family and Friends\, an exhibition celebrating the brilliantly macabre imagination of Charles “Chas” Addams\, creator of The Addams Family. \n\n\n\n\nPurchase Tickets \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGhoulish\, macabre\, bizarre\, eerie\, and weird have all been used to describe the work and characters of Charles Samuel Addams. Charming\, humorous\, enchanting\, tender\, and captivating are also adjectives used to describe the same body of work\, as well as the man himself. His rare gift was the ability to enjoin such dichotomies in wonderfully crafted cartoons and drawings loved by millions worldwide. Born in Westfield\, New Jersey in 1912\, Addams became a freelance cartoonist in the early 1930s. He sold his first drawing to The New Yorker in 1933. His cartoons ran regularly in the magazine from 1938 up until his death in 1988. Addams drew more than 1\,300 cartoons over the course of his life. Those that did not appear in The New Yorker were often in Collier’s and TV Guide. This exhibition encompasses 60 original works (including several color paintings as well as black-and-white cartoons)\, divided into five categories: Art & Architecture\, Relationships\, Addams Family\, Anomalies\, and “Preliminary and Published\,” which consists of four published works and their associated preliminary drawings.
