One Book, One San Diego 2018 Selection: March: Book One
For the first time in its decade-long history, a graphic novel has been chosen as the featured One Book, One San Diego title. March: Book One—the first in a series of three—is a vivid first-hand account of the Civil Rights Movement through the eyes of John Lewis. He and other student activists drew inspiration from the 1958 comic book Martin Luther King and the Montgomery Story. Now Lewis’s own comics bring those days to life for a new audience, testifying to a movement whose echoes will be heard for generations.
Now in its 12th year, the purpose of One Book, One San Diego is to bring our community closer together through the shared experience of reading and discussing the same book. So come read March: Book One with us! Visit your local library to check out the March books as well as programming related to the book’s themes of civil rights, social justice, discrimination, and the inspirational power of comics.
