Purchasing Badges for Others
Hello there! Professor Toucan here. There's no better way to say "I love you" (we know) than giving the gift of Comic-Con badges! But there are some important things you must know before you try to buy the ultimate stocking stuffer. I've got a warm winter scarf and a hot peppermint mocha, so let's get out of this classroom and take a stroll down “Purchasing for Others” lane.
As you all know, Comic-Con 2018 Open Registration is open to the general public, but anyone who wishes to purchase a badge must have their own valid and confirmed Comic-Con Member ID. If you are lucky enough to be selected for a registration session, you may purchase badges for up to three people – yourself included – while supplies last. If you choose to purchase a badge for another person (aren't you nice!), they must be eligible too. Eligible attendees include:
Anyone who has a Comic-Con Member ID that was created and confirmed prior to November 27, 2017 at 9:30 AM Pacific Standard Time (PST).
Anyone who has not purchased or registered for the Preview Night (Wednesday, July 18) option.
If your friends are not sure if they are eligible to participate, ask them to log in to their Member ID account and look under the “Registration Info” tab. Once you’ve confirmed that everyone you wish to purchase a badge for is eligible, you'll need to collect some basic information.
To purchase a badge for someone else, you will only need their Comic-Con Member ID and last name. Not password, not address, not registration code … just the MEMBER ID and LAST NAME. On the day of the sale, enter your registration code before 9:00 AM (PST) to enter the waiting room. Badges will go on sale shortly after 9:00 AM (PST). If you make the proper sacrifices to Krampus and are randomly selected for a registration session, input your own Member ID and last name to begin your purchase. A prompt will ask for the number of eligible attendees you'd like to purchase for. Now, pay close attention … Since I am hoping to get a Saturday badge for myself, my wife Ellen, and my daughter Audrey, I will select 3. Choose your selection on this page carefully because you will not be able to return to this page once you select "continue".
The next step is the badge selection page! My Member ID will already be validated and ready for badge selection. Next, I’ll input my brother and sister's Member ID and last name, then select “validate.” Once the Member IDs are validated, I can select badges from available inventory and proceed to checkout. That’s it! Badges for Ellen, badges for Audrey, and a lump of coal for my brother Eddie.
So, Professor, how do you feel about buying groups?
Just as you would hang a stocking from the chimney, proceed with care! It is vital that you only join a well-organized buying group with a good communication process in place. Buying groups can be helpful, but we've seen an increasing number of people get shut out due to disorganized efforts and lack of communication. Once a Member ID is used in a registration session, it is locked for 15 minutes or until the session is closed. If your Member ID is used by someone in your group, you will not be able to use it if you are also selected for a registration session. Your Member ID will not validate and you will receive an error message: “This Comic-Con Member ID is currently being registered by another buyer.” If you receive this error message, your Member ID has been used by another participant and Comic-Con will be unable to help you.
Also, keep in mind that your registration code is only good for one entry into the waiting room, and sharing your code could get you locked out. Do not attempt to enter it on multiple devices and browsers. Doing so will authorize the most recent device the registration code was entered on, and your previous device will be unauthorized. Buying groups often share their registration codes, which can lead to a lot of confusion. And lastly, but of the utmost importance: We highly suggest only joining a buying group with people you trust. If some Grinch in your group attempts to sell or scalp their badge, all badges in the order will be canceled, including yours. Don't risk it!
If we are successful, what happens next?
An order acknowledgement will be sent to the buyer immediately after the purchase. We will begin processing credit cards, and badge confirmations will be sent to each individual attendee within 48 - 72 hours. So if you're someone's Secret Santa, the gig is up. They will receive an email confirmation at least 72 hours after your purchase.
And now to channel Ebenezer Scrooge .... Please keep in mind that not all eligible attendees will be able to purchase a badge during Open Registration. There are far more eligible attendees then available badges. Entry to the waiting room does not guarantee you a badge or registration session. Preparation is key!
