We know Comic-Con comes around but once a year and you want to spend as much time as possible at the Convention Center, but hey . . . there’s a big beautiful city out there waiting to be seen! The area surrounding the center is filled with great restaurants, scenic views and shopping. Take a break from the con and go explore a little bit. Behind the Convention Center and Marriot and Hyatt hotels lies the Embarcadero and—farther north—Seaport Village, a picturesque shopping and dining destination. Out the front door of the center at Fifth Avenue, you’re at the foot of the historic Gaslamp District, filled with great restaurants and shopping. A walk up First Avenue takes you past Ralphs grocery store and to Horton Plaza, a multi-level outdoor mall. Going into the East Village (the pedestrian bridge at the Hilton Bayfront, at the Hall H end of the building, is a great shortcut to this area) will reveal a whole bunch of restaurants you may not have known even existed! And don’t forget the legendary San Diego Zoo—which is open at night during the summer—near historic Balboa Park (a beautiful oasis in the middle of the city). We want you to have as much fun as possible at Comic-Con . . . but don’t forget, San Diego is there to enjoy, too!
