Museum Educator (Part-Time)

The Museum Educator facilitates structured and drop-in educational programming for Comic-Con Museum (CCM) guests and students of varying ages and experience levels, and assists with the preparation, implementation, and maintenance of educational environments and activities. This role contributes to a welcoming learning environment that encourages participation, creative expression, and collaboration while supporting the mission of San Diego Comic Convention (SDCC). The selected candidate must satisfy screening requirements, including a Department of Justice Live Scan background check and a tuberculosis (TB) test.

  • Facilitate education programs, workshops, classes, field trips, and drop-in activities for a variety of learners
  • Facilitate the operation of the makerspace and support the appropriate use of tools and materials 
  • Assist in implementing project-based and design-based learning experiences tied to CCM exhibits and creative expression
  • Support learners in engaging with creative and technical processes using a variety of materials, tools, and media appropriate to program goals
  • Prepare, organize, distribute, and store program materials and supplies in accordance with CCM procedures 
  • Maintain safe, clean, and functional educational spaces, including basic care, setup, reset, and inventory of equipment and materials
  • Provide general guidance and instructional support to participants during activities and collaborative learning experiences
  • Assist in adapting activities to meet the varying needs of all participants
  • Support program documentation, attendance tracking, and routine administrative tasks as assigned 
  • Participate in curriculum preparation, testing, iteration, and feedback processes 
  • Participate in and support SDCC events, outreach activities, and public programs as assigned
  • Communicate program information and expectations clearly to all relevant parties
  • Follow safety procedures and operational guidelines regarding intellectual property and brand usage
  • Support the design and delivery of maker-centered learning experiences aligned with California Science-Technology-Engineering-Arts-Math (STEAM) standards in collaboration with fellow educators
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to using low-cost, sustainable materials in activities and projects when appropriate
  • Facilitate instruction in both analog and digital comic creation for learners of varying ages and skill levels
  • Assist in teaching media production and digital literacy skills to a diverse range of learners with different levels of experience

参加資格

  • A high school diploma or GED is required; an Associate degree or equivalent coursework, training, or experience in education, arts, humanities, sciences, museum studies, or a related field is strongly preferred
  • A minimum of one year of experience working with youth or the public in an educational, recreational, or community setting is required
  • Experience in museum, camp, or after-school enrichment, informal learning is preferred
  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional demeanor while demonstrating excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, credibility, integrity, and confidentiality

  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn current and new systems and platforms used by the organization, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office, Google Suite (G Suite), Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs/Sheets/Slides, Configio, ClickUp, Google Suite, Adobe Suite, in addition to other physical and digital media

  • Professional museum and classroom environment

  • This position requires close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading

給与範囲

$21.00 – $22.49 per hour
