10:00-11:30 Comic-Con Film School 104: Postproduction with a Spotlight on Film Festivals—
The final day of Comic-Con’s comprehensive course on micro-budget moviemaking
revolves around what to do after your movie is shot. Panelists will go over
the basics of postproduction on your home computer, as well as what software
to use for editing, graphic design, sound design, and visualFX, and finally,
how to burn your finished product to DVD. You will also receive insider advice
from special guest Chris Paffendorf (production coordinator for the San
Diego Asian Film Festival) on how to navigate your finished project through
the daunting world of Festivals. Other panelists include Matt Kohnen
(NYFA, writer/director of Wasting Away). Valerie Perez
(producer/star of Paula Peril—Trapped in the Flames
and Tears of the Dragon, a Lara Croft Fan Film), Nick Murphy (director of Tears of the Dragon), Aaron Shoenke
(director of Batman Legends and Patient J),
and Sean Rourke (writer/director of 1st Person Shooter).
11:30-12:30 CCI: IFF Awards—It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for!
The awarding of this year’s prizes and trophies for the best films in the Comic-Con
International Independent Film Festival! Join judges Tom DeSanto
(producer, X-Men, Transformers) and Borys Kit
(journalist, The Hollywood Reporter) and Comic-Con’s Gary Sassaman
as they discuss this year’s films and announce the winners in all six categories,
plus the coveted Judges’ Choice Award!
Science Fiction/Fantasy Part 2
12:30-12:45 The Perfect Gentlemen—A dignified gentleman loses
his refinement when he discovers an unexpected visitor for dinner. Nathan
Fackrell (writer/director); Matthew Fackrell (writer/director),
Paul Hamblin (storyboard artist), Chris Saul (assistant editor),
and Jason deVilliers (executive producer), discuss their film.
12:45-1:15 Omega 35—Pursued by the agents of the Central Systems, a
criminal and his former lover embark on a quest across the galaxy in this
’80s style sci-fi throwback. Participating panelists include co-directors James
Dastoli and Robert Dastoli and co-editor Brett Ryan
Bonowicz.
1:15-1:45 Operation: Fish—After a series of mysterious goldfish
abductions, a secret agent is dispatched to bring the criminals behind the fishnappings
to justice, and possibly save the world! Jeff Riley (director), Jeff
Gardner (director of photography), and Rachel Ito (graphics) talk
about their film.
1:45-2:05 Glow—A camper, alone in the woods, wakes in the night to discover
that the moon is shining much brighter than normal. Does this eerie phenomenon
mean that the world is about to end...or does it simply mean that the solitary
camper is losing his mind? Participating panelists include Evan Daugherty
(writer/director of Rusty Forkblade), Philip Schaeffer (The
Knave of Krypton), Zachary Johnson, Jeffrey Max, and Brian Higgins.
2:05-2:30 The Mercury Men—A meager office drone arrives early
to work to find himself caught in a galactic battle in which the fate of the
universe rests in his hands for five minutes. Filmmakers in attendance include
writer/director Christopher Preksta (Captain Blasto), co-star
Curt Wootton (Captain Blasto), and costume designer Ricky Lyle.
2:30-3:15 Final Run—In the 22nd century, known space is controlled
by a business conglomerate known as the Consortium. Sloane, one of humanity's
most wanted mercenaries, is preparing to retire. But when a former employer
requests him to undertake one last mission, he is pulled into a deadly conflict.
Panelists include writer/director Ken Foley, producer Darin Kuhlmann,
visual FX supervisor and production designer Bill Hawk, cinematographer
Jim Matlosz, and editor/compositor Joe Kornbrodt.
3:15-5:00 Yesterday Was a Lie—Hoyle, a girl with a sharp mind
and a weakness for bourbon, finds herself on the trail of a reclusive genius
in this new sci-fi noir film. Her work takes a series of unforeseen twists as
events around her grow increasingly fragmented ... disconnected ... surreal.
With a sexy lounge singer and a loyal partner as her only allies, Hoyle is plunged
into a dark world of intrigue and earth-shattering cosmological secrets. Participating
panelists include actor Peter Mayhew (Star Wars), actresses
Chase Masterson (Star Trek) and Kipleigh Brown (Enterprise),
writer/director James Kerwin, cinematographer Jason Cochard,
and co-executive producer Andrew Deutsch.
