Comic-COn Today Newsletter

Friday, July 25, 2025

Welcome to Comic-Con Today, the official newsletter of Comic-Con International. Each morning, we post a new digital issue with News, Updates, and Highlights of Comic-Con. We look forward to putting the information you need in your fingertips, or at least on your smartphone.

Yesterday at its Comic-Con Museum Coming Attractions panel, Comic-Con Museum announced its next two headline exhibits, The Myth of Superheroes (world premiere) and Doctor Who Worlds of Wonder: Where Science Meets Fiction (US premiere).

The Myth of Superheroes, September 2024

The Myth of Superheroes exhibition is an invitation to explore an incredible world in which people can fly, read minds, control time and magnetic fields, climb walls, and work magic. Reconstruction has transported the myths and legends of the past to the present day: from Hercules to Superman, from the Amazons to Wonder Woman, and from Mercury to the Flash. “It starts with a global overview of how the different ancient cultures and traditions in each region of the world actually have given rise to modern stories,” says Federica Modani, Head of Exhibitions, Contemporanea Progetti. The exhibition displays a rich selection of over 400 objects in which authentic replicas of Comic-Con Today 2 archaeological statues and busts of ancient gods and heroes dialogue with comics, original drawings, modern statues, and action figures in a highly innovative exhibition pathway for adults and children. For the very first time, the exhibition is enriched by video projections and graphics in which the superheroes and their superpowers are shown as the result of the conscious and unconscious imagination of the human mind, transferred into realistic images thanks to the innovative and unlimited use of AI resources.

Doctor Who worlds of wonder: Science Meets Fiction, March 2025

Calling all curious minds, future scientists, and Doctor Who fans, this exhibit invites visitors to experience the Doctor’s adventures, come face to face with a selection of iconic characters, and explore some of the worlds visited on screen, all while learning about the real-life science behind those memorable moments. Find out if time travel is actually possible and delve into the TARDIS Tech Room to examine the technological capabilities of the Doctor’s gadgets and gizmos. Uncover the secrets of black holes and wormholes, consider the possibilities of life on other planets, and discover the science behind why the TARDIS is bigger on the inside. A visit to the Monster Vault provides an opportunity to come face to face with many of the Doctor’s terrifying alien adversaries—and learn about their connections with real science.

The 36th annual Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards ceremony will be held tonight in the Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton Bayfront, just a short walk south from the Convention Center. The doors of the Indigo Ballroom open at 7:45 pm, and the ceremonies will get underway at 8:00. Attendance at the event is free to all Comic-Con members. Be sure to bring your convention badge to be admitted and a valid ID if you wish to purchase alcoholic beverages. The ceremony is expected to run until about 10:30 pm.

Hosting the ceremony this year are voice actor Phil LaMarr (Futurama, Samurai Jack, Justice League) and screenwriter/actor Thomas Lennon (Reno 911, Balls of Fury). Among presenters are actor/comedian/comics writer Patton Oswalt; producer/writer, actress/stuntwoman Janeshia Adams-Ginyard (Black Panther, Falcon and the Winter Soldier); voice actors Maurice LaMarche (Brain in Pinky and the Brain), and Sarah Natochenny (Ash Ketchum and other characters, Pokémon); and comics creators Kevin Eastman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Mike Mignola (Hellboy, Gotham by Gaslight), Bill Morrison (Simpsons Comics, Yellow Submarine), and Jill Thompson (Scary Godmother, The Sandman, Beasts of Burden).

Five little words that will make everyone’s Comic-Con better, Please, Thank you, and Excuse me.
