Writer/editor/comics historian, Comics Buyer’s Guide
Maggie Thompson learned to read in 1947 with the help of comic books. When she met fellow science fiction fan Don Thompson a decade later, their conversation covered the vast variety of the world of pop culture (although that term was not yet in use), and they found comics to be among their shared interests. Those interests led to shared activities, marriage, and kids. The “shared activities” included editing pioneering magazines about comics. These included Comic Art, Newfangles and, eventually, Comics Buyer’s Guide. When Don died in 1994, Maggie remained active in the field, where she is known as a collector, historian, and essayist.
